At New Perceptions our aim is to help you approach problems from a different perspective, allowing you to solve them together.
Whilst we specialise in child and adolescent psychiatry, we also see families and adults up to the age of 65 years. This includes expecting parents or those with newborns.
We work with you, your GP, specialist, and anyone else who is important in your care, and in your life.

We specialise in a range of illnesses and disorders including depression, anxiety, self-harm, school non-attendance, ADHD, Autism, OCD, PTSD, psychosis, Bipolar Affective Disorder, substance misuse, relationship problems, eating disorders, and many others.
Dr Charles Austin-Woods BSc (Hons) MBBS FRANZCP Cert. Child Adol. Psych
Otherwise known as Chuck, Dr Austin-Woods has worked in mental health services in the Illawarra region since 2009. Dr Austin-Woods has subspecialty training in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr Austin-Woods is currently working with Child and Adolescent Services in Goulburn, Yass, Queanbeyan, and Bega. He has training in Circle of Security Parenting, Family Based Treatment for Eating Disorders, and has years of experience and training in developmental, mood, psychotic, and personality disorders. He has a keen interest in family therapy.
He has lectured at the NSW Institute of Psychiatry (now known as HETI), is an honorary clinical lecturer, examiner, and interviewer with the University of Wollongong, and is also a member of the AMA.

Make an Appointment
You will need a current referral addressed to Dr Austin-Woods to be sent to us prior to your appointment from your GP (not a Mental Health Care Plan). This will make you eligible for a partial medicare rebate. Please be prepared to attend ideally two appointments for a comprehensive assessment. Appointments are available Monday to Wednesday. We do not accept referrals under DVA.
At New Perceptions we understand that you may not be able to attend a face to face appointment because of distance so we offer telehealth services. Please speak to our reception staff who will book you in for telehealth appointment. Once this is booked you will receive an invitation to join VSee. VSee is the telehealth service that we use it is secure and free (vsee.com).
